Summary for decision-makers

Since 2023, the SFA Group has supported the Sulabh School Sanitation Club in India, working in schools in Haryana and Sikkim. Nearly 900 students in ten schools have benefited from sanitation renovations, dedicated handwashing areas, and designated areas for girls, facilitating menstrual management.

Actions include the distribution of hygiene kits, training, and practical health workshops. By 2025, the focus will be on menstrual dignity with appropriate facilities and educational sessions, contributing to improved health and school attendance, particularly for girls.

True to its commitment to access to sanitation for all, the SFA Group has been commemorating World Toilet Day (November 19) for several years through the sponsorship of solidarity actions around the world.

SFA is committed to improving hygiene and menstrual dignity in Indian schools.

Following initiatives in France (2011, 2018, 2019), Cambodia (2016), and Senegal (2017), the French group that invented the Sanibroyeur® has been financially supporting the Sulabh School Sanitation Club in India since 2023, with the main objective of improving the quality of life in Indian schools.

To date, nearly 900 students from about ten schools in the provinces of Haryana (4 in 2023 – 250 students) and Sikkim (3 in 2024 – 296 students, and 3 new schools for 20251 – 314 students) have benefited from the financial support of the SFA Group. Each year, this support translates into the complete renovation of toilets, the creation of dedicated handwashing areas, and the establishment of separate spaces for girls, facilitating menstrual management. These clean and well-equipped facilities help reduce infections and the spread of disease, while also promoting school attendance, particularly among girls.

At the same time, the program takes concrete action on the daily lives of students and staff in schools through the distribution of hygiene kits, interactive training and practical workshops on health and hygiene education.

For 2025, the focus has been on menstrual dignity, with the creation of a space dedicated to handwashing and two sanitary blocks adapted to the specific needs of young girls, as well as the organization of training sessions aimed at addressing menstruation management with respect, confidence and serenity.

1-Schools benefiting from SFA support in 2025: Govt Senior Secondary School, Namchey Bong, Kumari Pema Chuden Govt Secondary School, Rongli and Tikalal Niroula Govt. Senior Secondary School, Central Pendam.
