A shopping center in Lesquin (59) gets a makeover with WEO composite wood cladding
In Lesquin (59), on the outskirts of Lille, a 5th category shopping center made up of several shops on the ground floor, has just had a makeover with WEO® cladding slats from Fiberdeck.
Built in 2001, this cellular concrete shopping center was originally clad with Red Cedar wood cladding, which was renovated, sanded, and varnished several times. During an expansion project, the existing stores were given a new look, giving them a more modern feel.
Franck BARBÉ, manager of SCI MOULIN 03 and project owner, looks back at this project.
Franck BARBÉ (Project owner – SCI MOULIN 03):
« The aging appearance of the wood no longer presented a satisfactory image to the tenants of the premises. In addition, the color of the wood on each business was no longer uniform due to the quality of the maintenance carried out by the different tenants. It therefore became necessary to renovate them and we took advantage of an expansion project to give the buildings a more contemporary design while maintaining the warm appearance of the wood.
The materials chosen jointly with the VDDT architect were a mix of metal and WEO® faux-openwork composite wood cladding from Fiberdeck, laid horizontally to give the buildings more pronounced vanishing lines.
The selection criteria that led us to WEO® cladding are, without a doubt, the natural appearance of the slats and its intense matte teak color which surpasses treated and stained softwood.
The faux-openwork profile with deep waves provides the desired modern and contemporary look. Finally, the ease and speed of installation by simple direct screwing, like wooden cladding, were very appreciable.
The longevity of WEO® cladding, compared to natural wood, was also a determining factor in the final choice of cladding chosen.
In addition to the aesthetic aspect which suited me, The 20-year durability guarantee, without maintenance and without any visible discoloration, gives it a considerable advantage compared to wood.»
In total, nearly 300 m2 of WEO® Fiberdeck cladding boards were installed for this commercial renovation project.
