Construction of a new production line at the Obernai site.
Commissioning planned for 2021.
Hager Group is continuing its investments in the Obernai industrial site, dedicated to the production of modular equipment for the protection of power lines and people (circuit breakers and residual current devices). A building permit was filed on November 13th for the construction of a new building that will house a new relay assembly line, with a capacity equivalent to the current assembly line.
Hager Group aims to support its growth through product innovations and the evolution of its production processes. This new investment project responds to the group's anticipated production capacity needs.
A bit of technique: the relay
The relay is an actuator that triggers the residual current device in the event of a ground fault. The residual current device thus protects people from the dangers of electric current. The relay is the heart of any residual current device. Production and assembly are carried out using a high-tech process and are carried out in a clean room.
Nearly 80 employees currently work on this assembly line in Obernai, which is fully automated and operates 24/24.
The future building
With a surface area of 1m², the future building will be constructed as an extension of the building housing the current relay line, which overlooks the D100, opposite the Kronenbourg factory.
Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2019 and is expected to last a year. The new production line is scheduled to go into operation in early 2021.
The architecture of the future building was entrusted to the Berlin-based firm Sauerbruch Hutton, which designed the Hager Forum (2015) and the administrative building inaugurated at the beginning of 2018 on the Obernai site. Since the latter's construction, many buildings on the site have been undergoing renovation, and several teams, including most recently the engineering team, have integrated renovated workspaces.
The investment
This productive investment naturally involves the construction of the future building, but also and above all the acquisition of new machine tools and new equipment. The total amount of the investment is around 20 million euros.
