Built in 1832 by the inhabitants of the communes of Vagney and Sapois (88), the Haut-du-Tôt church is the highest parish church in the Vosges department, at an altitude of 840 meters. To save this building infested with dry rot, the two municipalities launched a popular sponsorship campaign and called on a CTB-A+ certified company.

After an initial appearance in 2007, dry rot, a wood-eating fungus that feeds on the cellulose in wood, attacked the Haut-du-Tôt church again in July 2016. Faced with the diagnosis, the municipalities of Vagney and Sapois called upon the expertise of the Aubriat company, which has specialized for 40 years in treating timber frames against humidity and fungi and has been CTB-A+ certified since 1991.

After the removal of the infested interior and exterior woodwork and plasterwork by the masonry company DLM, the Aubriat company followed a precise protocol to permanently eradicate the dry rot:

  • replacement of damaged wooden beams and paneling,
  • destruction by flame of the fungal organs on all affected masonry,
  • injection of a fungicide product into the thickness of the stone walls,
  • spraying a fungicide product on the decrepit masonry up to approximately 1 meter beyond the infested area.

To prevent further infestation, the operators also had to ensure that all sources of humidity were stopped.

To finance the work, which totals €100, including €000 for antifungal treatment, a major public sponsorship campaign, under the auspices of the Fondation du Patrimoine, was launched. Since August 15, 000, it has already raised €19.
