DENY FONTAINE and BARAT: A successful collaboration to equip ALSTOM's Régiolis trains

DENY FONTAINE, a subsidiary of the Sécuridev Group, has been designing and developing train locks for over 30 years. The experience gained in the field in the railway sector allows DÉNY FONTAINE to take into account the specific technical constraints of rolling stock and offer a product that meets the needs of each customer. It is this industrial know-how and capacity for innovation that convinced the BARAT Group, a manufacturer of complete equipment for railway rolling stock, to work closely with DÉNY FONTAINE to respond to the call for tenders launched by ALSTOM and SNCF.

In October 2009, ALSTOM, a multi-specialist railway company and a leading player in the global regional transport market, signed a contract with SNCF to supply the new generation of TER rolling stock. This included an initial delivery of 100 Régiolis (Coradia Polyvalent) trains from the Coradia range. Between January 2010 and February 2012, 71 additional trains were signed, bringing the total order to 171 trains, the largest contract for regional trains (in terms of number of trains) ever signed in France.

The specifications established by SNCF and ALSTOM required for the first time that the anti-panic lock on the driver's partition comply with certain criteria of the EN 1125 standard, namely:
- an unloaded door opening force less than or equal to 80 Newton (i.e. 8 kg),
- a door opening force with a load of 1000 Newtons less than or equal to 220 Newtons (22 kg).

SNCF also wanted the anti-panic device to have a burglar resistance of 200 kg.

To meet these requirements, the BARAT Group naturally called on DÉNY FONTAINE to design the anti-panic lock that would equip the driver's partition.

With its experience in access management and smooth flow of traffic in public buildings, DÉNY FONTAINE had panic locks that complied with the EN 1125 standard for Public Access Buildings. Working closely with the BARAT Group in the design of the driver's partition, DÉNY FONTAINE brought and adapted its expertise and thus developed a tailor-made solution that met not only the requirements of SNCF and ALSTOM but also the constraints of the railway industry.

Both pulling and pushing, the anti-panic device, which complies with certain criteria of the EN 1125 standard and is designed by DÉNY FONTAINE, is equipped with an electric strike. An additional security feature, this access control function allows train managers to have access traceability at all times.

After undergoing all the approval tests (including 50.000 operating cycles in each direction), the DÉNY FONTAINE anti-panic device mounted on the BARAT partition was unanimously approved. It will be installed on the 171 ALSTOM Régiolis trains that will operate in 2014 on the rail networks of the Alsace, Lorraine, Aquitaine, Auvergne, Lower and Upper Normandy, Midi-Pyrénées, Pays de la Loire, Picardy, Poitou-Charentes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions.
