KAWNEER joinery for a timeless renovation of the Ensam de Cluny catering center

The renovation of the Ensam de Cluny catering center in Saône-et-Loire (71) gave rise to a real reflection on the material led by the architect Bernard Desmoulin. Supported by Frédéric Didier, chief architect of historic monuments, he chose KAWNEER aluminum structures to create a contemporary catering space that integrates perfectly with the existing buildings, marked by the stigmata of time.

The 1 m² catering center with a capacity of 230 seats had to be in perfect harmony with the existing environment, the Cluny Abbey. Founded in the 2th century and built of Burgundy stone, it is a listed Historic Monument and commands respect. Bernard Desmoulin leaned against the abbey's surrounding wall a building that is both modern and discreet in the old buildings. To extend the Corten steel envelope, he chose KALORY aluminum joinery, windows with visible openings, KASTING, sliding windows and KANADA, entrance doors tested to one million cycles, all in the exclusive KAWNEER Natif Rust® color.

KAWNEER profiles serving environmental preservation
The façade is made of self-weathering steel plates with a raw surface, laid as a cladding on the concrete structure. KAWNEER's thermally broken aluminum joinery in a Natif Rust® color blends perfectly with the pre-oxidized steel to form a coherent whole with the irregular stones of the medieval wall. Thus, the elements provided by KAWNEER gave the architect great freedom: he managed to reconcile the new and the old, giving his project its own identity without overshadowing the existing buildings.

They can accommodate glazing or decorative panels up to 56 mm thick. KANADA doors also meet the requirements of people with reduced mobility. Tools, assembly accessories, and hardware are identical to facilitate the installation of the joinery.
