RT 2012, a global energy performance requirement for buildings, has as its main goal energy management in buildings. It affects technical equipment and the building envelope, which represents the source of the main points of energy loss (30% through the roof and 25% through the walls).

Eternit's roofing products and cladding systems provide significant advantages in terms of RT 2012 and contribute to meeting and even exceeding regulatory requirements.

Eternit fiber cement, a product that is part of sustainable development

Waterproof and therefore rot-proof, fiber cement is nevertheless permeable to water vapor. By absorbing up to 25% of its weight in water, it allows the roof to breathe and prevents condensation problems.

Frost-resistant, fiber cement retains all its qualities in our climates and its reliability makes it a durable material – average lifespan of 50 years – requiring virtually no maintenance.

Fiber cement also has acoustic and thermal qualities. Thanks to its density, it absorbs sound well and reverberates little; it also offers low thermal conductivity.

Having embarked on an environmental approach since 1998, Eternit was the first company in its sector of activity to be certified ISO 14001 by AFAQ for all of its 5 sites - 4 CRI (Ciment Renforcé Industrie) production plants and its head office, all located in France - and to have carried out environmental and health labeling of its products.

Committed to respecting the environment, Eternit, through its sister company CRI, uses renewable resources and secondary raw materials chosen based on their impacts and origins while guaranteeing the quality of the finished products.

The use of water, an essential component in the manufacture of fiber cement, is limited to what is strictly necessary. The vast majority of water is used in its raw form, and the plants operate in a closed circuit to fully reuse their industrial water. Water consumption at the four CRI production sites has thus decreased by 4% in 50 years.

Furthermore, suppliers are selected for their commitment to globally recognized ISO 14001 environmental initiatives. Eternit products are recyclable in sectors such as cement plants, roads, landfills, etc. 99% of dry waste and 100% of wet waste are recycled.

All roofing products and 75% of facade and construction products have undergone a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by an independent company. These products therefore have Environmental and Health Declaration Sheets (FDES). Eternit fiber cement is produced using the Cement + PolyVinylAlcohol manufacturing process known as PVA*, guaranteeing perfect product durability over time, with a normal lifespan of over 30 years. With a 10-year warranty on the product and its coloring, the Coloronde range complies with class C1X of the NF EN 494 standard and benefits from a CSTB Technical Opinion and an NF mark certificate. Thanks to the intrinsic qualities of fiber cement, a stainless, frost-proof, rot-proof and incombustible material, Coloronde corrugated sheets offer perfect and long-lasting resistance.

They are also equipped with polypropylene retaining strips at each wave (Eternit FRR patent) for increased safety. They meet the requirements of standard NF EN 15057-October 2006 (impact behavior).

*PVA is a traditional textile fiber that benefits from excellent cohesion with cement and has a reinforcing power characterized by high tensile strength and allows the fiber-cement matrix to strengthen over time.

The security guarantee

Coloragri corrugated sheets have Technical Notice No. 5/06-1912 "FR Natura corrugated sheet 177x51". They ensure perfect and durable waterproofing as well as excellent resistance to strong winds. For safety on the roof (in the event of accidental breakage of a sheet), they are reinforced by a polypropylene retaining strip at the level of each wave (FRR patent from Eternit) Standard NF EN 494 "Profiled sheets in reinforced cement and accessories": Product specification and test methods."

2 products in 1, an optimized greening system

The Verdura system is based on a process of extensive pre-cultivated vegetation.

It consists of Eternit's Verdura profiled sheet support, which guarantees immediate waterproofing of the roof, whether on a wooden or metal frame. The vegetation is then created in a single operation using pre-cultivated trays with a Hydropack water reserve.

This patented* pre-cultivated tray system combines all the components of a multi-layer vegetation complex: drainage, filter, substrate and vegetation.

The pose? Two times... two movements

No need for the carpenter to have specific horticultural knowledge: the installation of the system is ultra-simple: the Eternit Verdura panels are fixed to the roof without any change compared to a normal installation of panels (under Technical Approval). The Hydropack trays are attached to each other by simply interlocking.

The Verdura profiled plates thus provide support for the Hydropack trays: a simple and quick solution to implement.

2 types of vegetation are available:

• Sedum Hydropack : the pre-cultivated tank is covered with different sedums (examples: sedum album coral carpet, sedum sexangulare, sedum lydium, etc.) of different colors.

• Hydropack Mix Flora : the pre-cultivated container is covered with a mixture of sedums and other perennial plants suitable for greening roofs: carnation, thyme, chives, fescue, etc.

A roof that serves the environment

Eternit's Verdura system regulates water during heavy rainfall, thus limiting clogging of pipes and discharges into the network.

The roof also acts on the outside air by releasing oxygen and fixing CO2 as well as surrounding dust.

With this system, water retention is increased thanks to the Hydropack tray's honeycomb base: water management is optimized, meaning more water is available to the plants and less water is lost. The unique system of interconnected channels allows for optimal water distribution.
