Preserving the planet by limiting the consumption of natural resources and reducing CO2 emissions has been a challenge facing manufacturers for several years. Eco-design, industrial ecology, efficient waste management, and short-circuit distribution are hallmarks of the circular economy.

A group committed to the circular economy

This environmental approach has the triple benefit of supporting local production, reducing resource consumption, and encouraging manufacturers to implement sound waste management practices. Construction is a sector particularly affected by these environmental issues.

The Fabemi Group has been committed to a circular economy approach for several years. Founded in 1961 in Donzère (Drôme), the company develops concrete construction systems in several areas: Structural work, Roads & Networks, Terraces & Gardens.

The Group truly integrates the circular economy into its corporate ethics.

Eco conception

The Fabemi Group manufactures 100% French products, certified as "Guaranteed French Origin" (the only label that guarantees French manufacturing). This recognition for the company legitimizes the Group's long-standing commitment to French manufacturing and assures consumers of product reliability and quality.

Fabtherm® blocks set an example

100% natural and recyclable, Fabtherm® and Fabtherm® Air insulation blocks are an example of the eco-design approach at the heart of Fabemi's innovation and product development.

With a low environmental impact, these blocks help reduce the carbon footprint of buildings by around 4 to 8% compared to other construction solutions, thus enabling the construction of E+C- labeled structures. Fabtherm® products are already a solution that meets the challenges of the future RE 2020. From their manufacture to their end-of-life recycling, the carbon footprint of Fabemi products is reduced thanks to local production and distribution, supplies as close as possible to the factories, a manufacturing process without firing, natural drying of the products and use on construction sites in an average catchment area of 200 km around the production sites, making it possible to contain the CO2 impact of product transport.

Launched in 2018, Fabtherm® products confirm Fabemi as a leader and innovator in the precast concrete products market.

Extend recycling to all concrete

In a global context of growing demand for raw materials and tension regarding the supply of resources, it is essential that products placed on the market incorporate more materials from waste recovery channels.

Fabemi encourages the expansion of the field of use of concrete made from recycled materials for use in its products. The Group's manufacturing waste, even in small quantities, represents a potential source of recycled aggregates that Fabemi plans to reuse by integrating them into product manufacturing. This waste can now be recovered and reused for the production of ready-mix concrete (RMC), thanks to a regulatory change. This waste will soon be authorized for the manufacture of prefabricated products such as concrete blocks.

Industrial ecology

The Fabemi factories were built or refitted according to the Group's strict criteria: safety, industrial ecology and innovation by implementing the best available technologies in the production units.

In addition, the company favors the internalization of activities related to the manufacturing of finished products: Fabemi Industrie produces the stiffeners used for the manufacture of RAID beams developed by the Group. This vertical integration is a further example of the importance of the circular economy for the Fabemi Group, as the steels are manufactured on the same production site as the beams.

Fabemi is always innovating and investing in the modernization of its facilities

The Fabemi Group, which generates a turnover of 120 million euros per year, relies on an agile development strategy promoting Industry 4.0, in collaboration with French manufacturers such as Quadra or highly specialized independent companies for industrial production tools.

Birds of a feather flock together

The circular economy approach already has many supporters among French manufacturers and it is no coincidence that some of them have developed partnerships with the Fabemi Group.

Working together on these universal themes while sharing the same environmental ethics increases the viability and relevance of their economic models in a world in full upheaval, linked to environmental awareness.

For example, Knauf, a manufacturer of thermal and acoustic insulation solutions and a partner of Fabemi, is also heavily involved in the recycling of EPS (expanded polystyrene) waste. In February 2020, the Knauf Group created Knauf Circular® (knaufcircular.fr), a service aimed at recycling clean EPS waste (excluding deconstruction) resulting from the implementation of EPS products on construction sites. This new service is currently being launched in a pilot phase in the south-eastern quarter of France and is expected to be rolled out across the whole of France from 2021. The volumes of EPS collected are then transported to one of the authorized EPS recycling sites.

Local production

The products manufactured by Fabemi gros oeuvre are designed for the “circular economy”: concrete block masonry and prefabricated floors with joists. The Group's 12 factories spread across France are supplied locally; they are strategically located within a 10 km radius of the aggregate quarries.

As part of the entry into force of RE 2020, the Group's products have been certified NF FDES (Environmental and Health Declaration Sheets) allowing quantification of the environmental impact of the products in Kg of CO2 / m2 or ml.

Under the next environmental regulations, due to come into force in July 2021, CO2 emissions from the construction and life of the building will be accounted for and must not exceed certain threshold values. Fabemi products are emerging as low-carbon construction solutions ready to meet the new challenges associated with regulatory changes.

The Group is continuing to implement strategies for the development of eco-designed constructive solutions, making the low carbon impact of products a formidable lever for the growth of its activities.

A complete offer

The Fabemi Group develops products and solutions for construction and space planning, organized into 3 product lines:

STRUCTURE

This activity includes the manufacture of low CO2 impact construction systems: traditional concrete blocks, insulating concrete blocks, beams, joists and interjoists.

More than 1 million tons of concrete blocks and more than 4 million linear meters of joists per year.

Roads & Networks

Constantly evolving, this activity mobilizes resources in research and manufacturing. Fabemi develops this activity by designing products - slabs, paving stones, guide strips, gutters - that comply with current standards. The Caladia Fabemi range, the strength of the Roads activity, includes more aesthetic products, while remaining compliant with the criteria for the development and beautification of public spaces.

More than 100 tons of curbs per year.

Terrace & Garden

This activity is based around the BRADSTONE and CARRÉ D'ARC ranges: outdoor design products such as paving, coping stones and accessories, borders, low walls, wall cladding and paving. Fabemi offers a wide selection of products in different materials - designer concrete, decorative concrete, natural stone, ceramic - to create terraces, pool decks, driveways, etc.

3 million m2 of paving per year.
