Fabemi: The complete construction solution for treating thermal bridges
Fabemi: The complete construction solution for treating thermal bridges
RT 2005 established the need to ensure complete insulation of the building envelope. RT 2012 and BBC constructions focus on the means to be implemented to address thermal bridges, which cause heat loss. Fabemi floors and blocks are the ideal solution for meeting the requirements of RT 2012, or even constructing buildings that comply with the requirements of the E+C- (Energy + Carbon -) label, in view of future energy and environmental regulations for buildings.
Fabemi has also developed comprehensive construction solutions for dealing with thermal bridges (floors with polystyrene interjoists + planks + insulating blocks). For this purpose, it offers the RIVTHERM® 25 (R = 0,25 m2.K/W) and RIVTHERM® 85 (R = 0,85 m2.K/W) insulating planks as well as ISOPLANEL S (R = 0,92 m2.K/W) - an insulating plank designed for use in all seismic zones - for dealing with thermal bridges at the wall-floor intersection.
A complete Wall and Floor system
Without thermal bridge breakers
As one of the leaders in the concrete products market, Fabemi offers comprehensive construction solutions to address thermal bridges in intermediate floors of buildings (solid slab floors, concrete or prefabricated floors) and thus improve the performance of walls: insulating blocks / insulating slabs / beam and interjoist floors. An economical and easy-to-install solution, insulating slabs represent an ideal alternative to thermal bridge breakers, without breaking the compression slab.
The system includes all the elements to build the floor and the walls, in compliance with the recommendations of the thermal study and the rules of the art.
• An insulating floor with hybrid RAID® beams, insulating interjoists and insulating slabs.
• Fabtherm® insulating blocks and accessories (corner blocks, chaining blocks, etc.) for building walls with thermal resistance up to R = 1,77 m2.K/W.
Constructive solutions for single-family homes and collective dwellings, Fabtherm® insulating blocks, associated with Fabemi insulating boards, allow thermal bridging values to be obtained in accordance with RT 2012, including with solid slab floors.
This solution involves integrating an insulating slab at the end of the slab where the heat flows pass, in addition to the insulating concrete block elevation. This reduces linear heat losses by more than 20% depending on the thermal resistance of the slab.
In common aggregates, 5 cm thick, lined with a polyurethane plate, the ISOPLANEL S insulating plane (thickness 5 cm - R = 0,92 m².K/W), is effective, simple and economical for treating thermal bridges formed at the intersections of floors and insulating masonry. Designed for seismic zones, it is available in several heights (16, 17, 20 and 24 cm), depending on the thickness of the floor.
Made of pumice concrete with graphite polystyrene insulation, the RIVTHERM® 85 insulating plank (thickness 6,4 cm - R = 0,85 m².K / W), installed at the edge of the floor, allows thermal bridges to be treated until the breakers are removed.
Also in pumice concrete with 5 cells, the RIVTHERM® 25 insulating plank (thickness 5 cm - R = 0,25 m².K / W), installed at the edge of the floor, allows thermal bridges to be treated.
Suitable for all types of floors, the installation of Fabemi insulating plates is simpler and more economical than with thermal bridge breakers.
Fabemi floors
RAID® hybrid portable beams
With or without props, Fabemi RAID® Hybrids are prestressed concrete heel beams with exclusive triangular lattice stiffeners. These long-span beams can be used to create all flooring solutions (standard, thermal, acoustic), whether for new construction or renovation.
Lighter than traditional prestressed beams, Fabemi hybrid RAID® beams are easy to handle. They allow for long spans (6,20 m long without props and 9 m with props), which offers great freedom in building design by significantly reducing the need for shear walls. Another advantage is that the triangular stiffeners ensure easy handling for easy transport. This highly appreciated working comfort increases the efficiency of teams on construction sites.
Fabemi RAID® hybrid beams allow for up to 12% concrete savings when installed with straight-edged concrete or polystyrene interlocking beams.
Insulating assemblies
Fabemi RAID® hybrid beams can be combined with the following polystyrene interlocking beams:
• OPTIRAID®: polystyrene formwork interjoists to create lightweight intermediate floors, both in new construction and renovation.
• RAIDtherm®: polystyrene interlocking block with tongue limiting energy losses from low floors, and decorative polystyrene interjoists with tongue allowing a flat underside to be maintained.
• RAIDtherm® under floating screed: polystyrene interjoists with tongue and groove combined with the installation of a floating screed used to optimize the thickness of the insulation and significantly reduce linear losses.

Fabtherm® excellence
Fabemi's expertise is also demonstrated in the manufacture of innovative and high-performance insulating concrete blocks from the Fabtherm® range, which are divided as follows:
• The Fabtherm® Eco hollow block to be glued, with a thermal resistance of R = 0,51 m2 K/W, which saves on insulation thickness. Twice as insulating as a traditional block, Fabtherm® Eco provides a high-quality, economical solution for the construction of individual or collective buildings up to R+2.
• Fabtherm® Air hollow masonry blocks, two to seven times more insulating than traditional blocks. These 20 cm section blocks, based on light or common aggregates, have a core of 100% mineral AIRiumTM foam, developed by LafargeHolcim, reinforcing their insulating capacities. They thus display unprecedented thermal performance at constant thickness (from R = 0,58 m2.K / W to 1,77 m2.K / W), providing a solution to all needs (collective housing, individual houses and tertiary buildings) .
The insulating mineral foam injected into the Fabtherm® Air blocks allows the masonry to take part in the building's insulation, which saves time in construction and increases living space.
The Fabtherm® Air range of insulation blocks includes:
• The Fabtherm® Air 0.6 masonry block in current aggregates, i.e. R = 0,58 m2.K/W,
• The Fabtherm® Air 1.1 gluing block in common aggregates, ideal for collective housing (R+4),
or R = 1,12 m2.K/W,
• The high-performance Fabtherm® Air 1.8 bonding block in lightweight aggregates (R+3), or R = 1,77 m2.K/W.
