Since its founding in 1961, Fabemi, a family business based in Donzère, in the Drôme Provençale region, has continually developed new materials and invested in high-tech equipment to offer innovative solutions to construction professionals. With 14 production sites across France and more than 600 employees, Fabemi is a leader in the concrete products market.

Fabemi continues to modernize its factories

The group Fabemi, which generates a total turnover of 140 million euros, is based on a dynamic development strategy. Thus, in 2019, it invested 4,7 million euros in three of its sites to modernize their production tools, namely:

• 2,2 million euros in the new vibrating press and the new palletizing line of Lyon Agglos (Saint-Laurent-de-Mure 69),

• 1 million euros in the new drying tool in Rochemaure (07),

• 1,5 million euros for the replacement of the concrete plant in Montargis (45).

Vibrating press with high production capacity for the Lyon Agglos plant

The Lyon Agglos site of the Fabemi Group produces concrete blocks. To meet growing demand and develop its productivity, the company has invested in a new vibrating press of an unprecedented format, the Quadra14HP.

The optimal manufacturing conditions for this patented equipment ensure a short cycle time and high product quality. Thus, the modular vibratory characteristics designed by the company Quadra have benefited from patents, offering effective compaction for rapid and uniform filling, with a constant density over the entire height of the blocks.

This innovative vibrating press is equipped with accelerometers and laser cells adjusting the manufacturing and vibration parameters. Its yields are high, with exceptional flexibility, adaptability and ease. The Fabemi Group uses it to manufacture large volumes of concrete, over very short cycle times.

This machine allows to obtain a diversified production - masonry blocks, curbs - with a capacity of:

• 14 blocks of 20 x 20 x 50 cm per cycle, or 1 block/second.

• 21 blocks of 20 x 20 x 40 cm per cycle, or 1 block/0,66 seconds.

Also, to cope with this very high output, the palletizing line has been fully robotized and equipped with 3 robots and 2 conveyors, which keep pace with the press and ensure rapid, reliable and precise palletizing.

New drying tool for the Rochemaure unit

At the Rochemaure factory of the Fabemi Group, the production process for concrete manholes has been modernized. Since February 2019, the unit has benefited from a new drying system.

The production of manholes requires a long drying time and a whole phase of handling when the press is removed. In order to optimize this manufacturing phase, the Fabemi Group has invested in an automated line, the Humarbo line, which transports concrete manholes from the press to the drying area.

From manufacturing to storage

The products exit the press on boards that are automatically transported to racks, where they will remain for several days to dry. The manholes are then collected and packaged before being sent to the storage area. The empty boards are returned to the circuit after being automatically cleaned. This new line will double production.

New concrete plant for the Montargis site

The concrete plant which previously supplied the Montargis factory of the Fabemi Group has been replaced by a new one at short notice, in order to maintain the level of production. The operation covered all the facilities: aggregate storage unit, 3 cement silos and 2 mixers.

The impact on yields was minimal because the mixing and storage modules were assembled in masked time. The 3 weeks of annual summer shutdown for maintenance were then sufficient to dismantle the old equipment and set up the new plant.

An ambitious policy

The investments made by the Fabemi Group in 2019 meet the roadmap decided by the managers of the company. The latter intend to consolidate and develop Fabemi's positions on its various markets, with the ambition of seeing the Group increase its production capacities and calmly grasp the commercial challenges of tomorrow.
