FOAMGLAS - New Technical Notice

Pittsburgh Corning France, a subsidiary of Owens Corning, which manufactures FOAMGLAS® cellular glass thermal insulation, has just obtained a new DTA (Technical Notice No. 5.2/18-2595_V1) entitled “FOAMGLAS®TAPERED”.

A new Technical Opinion confirms that FOAMGLAS® insulation is on the right track

This new Technical Opinion, relating to the implementation of sloping insulating plates serving as direct supports for waterproofing flat roofs, incorporates FOAMGLAS® T3+ of lambda 0.036 W/mK

It offers new possibilities, in particular by allowing work on load-bearing elements made of steel or wood trays.

The process makes it possible to achieve both the insulating layer and the regulatory slope under the waterproofing: 1,5% for roofs with pedestrian access, 2% for roofs with access for light vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, etc.

It also allows slopes to be created on inaccessible or technical zero-slope concrete roofs, in order to avoid any water stagnation on the waterproofing.

In renovation, this new DTA opens up the possibility of retaining the load-bearing elements in wood or ribbed steel sheet with insufficient slopes, by supplementing the slope under waterproofing with an additional slope in FOAMGLAS® TAPERED cellular glass.

FOAMGLAS® insulation, very lightweight and of constant mass (FOAMGLAS® T3+: 100 kg/m3), is made of rigid and waterproof glass bubbles. It resists compression without settling over time, which allows Pittsburgh Corning France to guarantee the slope and stable weight of its FOAMGLAS®TAPERED boards for 25 years.

As a reminder, FOAMGLAS® T3+ appeared in 2017. With an exceptional thermal conductivity of 0.036 W/mK, it currently represents the best non-combustible insulation under waterproofing (example: Rth = 5 for a thickness of 18 cm).
