Sustainable development is a reality at France Géothermie

Reducing, sorting, and recycling waste is essential for safeguarding our planet . That's why FRANCE GÉOTHERMIE decided three years ago to join Éco-systèmes , an approved eco-organization for the collection and processing of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment).

FRANCE GEOTHERMIE is thus committed to sustainable development by contributing financially to the collection, depollution and recycling, through eco-participation, of equipment such as Large Household Appliances, with or without refrigerant.

Summary of France Géothermie 's Contribution for the Year 2009

The initial objective of this collection program is threefold. First, it aims to conserve natural resources; indeed, recycling WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) yields new materials essential for conserving our planet's resources. Second, it is necessary to extract and neutralize potentially hazardous substances present in WEEE ; a new activity that encourages the creation and development of specialized treatment facilities in France. Third, it involves national agreements with Emmaüs and Envie. Signed in 2005, these agreements have recently been renewed. They define the common principles for improving the professionalization and quality of reuse activities.

In 2009, within its category, France Géothermie contributed to the collection of 180,497 metric tons of large household appliances (refrigeration) for 1302 appliances and 20,679 metric tons of other household appliances for 278 appliances . France Géothermie's contribution to the collection and recycling of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) resulted in the recovery of new materials such as scrap metal, non-ferrous metals, and recycled plastics. These materials are then reused, and their use becomes essential for the economy and the conservation of certain resources on our planet. This collection effort thus prevented the emission of 140.02 metric tons of CO2.

HOW DO FRANCE GEOTHERMIE AND ITS DEALERS CONTRIBUTE TO ECO -PARTICIPATION?

France Geothermal:

• Takes care of the end of life of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment that it puts on the market, in proportion to its market share.

• Strengthens the eco-design of new products through design and manufacturing that facilitates their recycling.

• Designates with a specific pictogram (crossed-out bin), as well as a marking allowing its manufacture to be identified, new products which should no longer be thrown in the bin.

The dealers:

• Take back a used product in exchange for the purchase of an equivalent new product. This is the so-called “one for one” obligation.

• Inform consumers about WEEE channels.

The amount of the eco-participation must, for its part, be passed on by all intermediaries in a visible manner on the bill, all the way to the final consumer.
