Sustainable development is a reality at France Géothermie

Reduction, sorting and recycling waste is a necessity for the preservation of our planète. That is why FRANCE GÉOTHERMIE decided, 3 years ago, to join Eco-systems, an eco-organization approved for the collection and treatment of WEEE.

FRANCE GÉOTHERMIE is thus committed to sustainable development by contributing financially to the collection, decontamination and recycling, through eco-participation, of large household appliances, with or without refrigerant.  

THE BALANCE SHEET OF THE CONTRIBUTION OF FRANCE GEOTHERMAL FOR THE YEAR 2009

The initial objective of this collection is threefold. First, it is about saving natural resources; in fact, recycling WEEE waste makes it possible to obtain new materials essential to saving our planet's resources. Second, it is necessary to extract and neutralize the potentially hazardous substances present in the WEEE ; a new activity that promotes the creation and development of specialized processing sites in France. Thirdly, there is talk of national agreements with Emmaüs and Envie. Signed in 2005, these agreements were recently renewed. They define common principles for improving the professionalization and quality of reuse activities.

In 2009, in its category, France Geothermal Energy contributed to the collection of 180,497 tonnes of GEM (Large Household Appliances) Cold for 1302 devices collected and 20,679 tonnes of GEM excluding cold for 278 devices collected. FRANCE GÉOTHERMIE's contribution to WEEE collection and recycling has resulted in the production of new materials such as scrap metal, non-ferrous metals, and recycled plastics. These materials are then revalued, and their use becomes essential for the economy and the preservation of certain resources on our planet. This collection has thus prevented the emission of 140.02 tons of CO2.

HOW DO FRANCE GEOTHERMIE AND ITS DEALERS CONTRIBUTE TO THEECO-PARTICIPATION ? 

France Geothermal:

• Supports the end of life of Éequipment Éelectrical and Éelectronics that it places on the market, in proportion to its market share.

• Strengthens the eco-design of new products through design and manufacturing that facilitates their recycling.

• Designates with a specific pictogram (crossed-out bin), as well as a marking allowing its manufacture to be identified, new products which should no longer be thrown in the bin.

The dealers:

• Take back a used product in exchange for the purchase of an equivalent new product. This is the so-called “one for one” obligation.

• Inform consumers about WEEE channels.

The amount of theeco-participation must, for its part, be passed on by all intermediaries in a visible manner on the invoice, up to the final consumer.
