Illico Travaux, a pioneering and innovative network
Founded just 10 years ago by Nicolas Daumont, then fresh out of the IFMA (French Institute for the Management of French Trades), Illico Travaux has gradually grown and structured itself to achieve a national and European presence. Indeed, franchises exist in Belgium, Portugal, and Luxembourg, guaranteeing, as in France, legal and financial protection for clients.
Batipôle Editorial
In ten years, Illico Travaux has structured the work broker profession
Ten years after its creation in Lyon by Nicolas Daumont, the construction brokerage business is now structured. With 140 brokers in France and its first international locations, Illico Travaux is spearheading the industry. The rapidly expanding network already employs 7.500 construction companies.
Creator of "works brokerage" in the early 2000s, the Lyon-based Illico Travaux network now has 140 franchised brokers in France (including 85 agencies) and 38 internationally: 26 in Belgium, 10 in Portugal and 2 in Switzerland.
Their job is to help individuals who want to carry out home renovations find the best craftsmen in each field. Construction brokers select the craftsmen who can carry out the work, then connect them with the client, who is responsible for making the final selection.
The broker presents the client with quotes from independent companies that he has selected based on several criteria guaranteeing their reliability (registration in the commercial register, insurance, solvency, etc.) and the quality of their expertise. In addition to better prices and time savings (no tedious research), the individual therefore has the assurance of dealing with a quality company, financially sound and offering all the guarantees.
In order to maintain the transparency of the operation, the work broker is paid by the craftsman chosen by his client...according to a percentage fixed in advance by the network for all stakeholders.
SIGNIFICANT FIGURES
In France, 100.000 people have already used a broker from the Illico Travaux network.
In 2009, the network "sold" more than 69 million euros worth of work excluding tax and achieved a turnover of 11,5 million euros, an increase of 4,6% compared to 2008.
Illico Travaux works with more than 7.500 construction companies throughout France.
The average cost of work completed is €15.300 excluding VAT. The average broker's salary exceeds 10%.
In the next ten years, with the same rate of growth, the network will be made up of 350 franchised agencies in France and internationally which will "sell" more than a billion jobs to individuals.
GUARANTEES FOR CONSUMERS
Illico Travaux has put in place two important guarantees for consumers:
- Legal protection in the event of a dispute with a company on a construction site. This guarantee is already operational.
- Financial protection throughout the project in the event of company failure. This particularly effective scheme is also complex to implement at the national level. It will be gradually extended to the entire network during 2010.
THE CAREER OF NICOLAS DAUMONT
In March 2000, at just 23 years old, Nicolas Daumont, a young engineer from the French Institute of Advanced Mechanics (IFMA) in Clermont-Ferrand, created the concept of "work brokerage" and launched the first franchise network in the sector, Illico Travaux.
In 2007, Nicolas Daumont created Domireva, a unique concept aimed at uniting medium-sized construction companies from all sectors of the finishing work under one banner, while preserving their independence, offering them commercial support and giving them access to high-performance management and administration techniques.
In April 2009, the Archipelle group (Illico Travaux, Dimireva) acquired the Niort-based company Camif Habitat, a leader in the field of turnkey home renovations. The company has completed more than 50.000 projects since its creation in 1982.
Drawing on a network of professionals comprising more than 300 project managers and 3.000 construction companies, Camif Habitat offers individuals turnkey management of home improvement, renovation or extension projects.
Nicolas Daumont is also President and co-founder of the FFCT (French Federation of Works Brokerage), the interface between works brokerage professionals and public authorities.
