IMERYS Toiture is participating in the renovation of the Grande Halle de Gerland in Lyon
Summary for decision-makers
The development project, with a total surface area of 21 m², includes the construction of three buildings, two new ones flanking the Grande Halle and retaining an original building with its double nave. This operation was orchestrated with impeccable attention to preserving the industrial identity of the site, requiring the conservation of the facades and roof volumes. To meet this requirement, the architects opted for HP 360 Huguenot terracotta tiles from IMERYS Toiture in a Quartz Grey color, harmoniously matching the zinc roofs of the new structures and bringing a contemporary touch to the project.
In total, 2 m² of these tiles were installed by the Vaganay company, responsible for the timber framing and roofing work. This technical choice not only respects the visual integrity of the site, but also guarantees the durability and aesthetics of the entire project. As decision-makers, it is crucial to recognize the importance of these construction choices to ensure the sustainability and modernization of the built environment while honoring its industrial history.
In Lyon, the Grande Halle de Gerland, a former storage hall, has been converted into an office building. The project design was entrusted to the architectural firms D3 Architectes and Reichen Robert & Associés. The roof, which received special attention, was covered with HP 10 Huguenot terracotta tiles in Quartz Grey from IMERYS Toiture.
A new complex combining tradition and modernity thanks to HP 10 Huguenot tiles
With a total surface area of 21 m360, the new complex consists of three buildings: two new buildings located on either side of the Grande Halle and the original building with its double nave. The project required preserving the facades and roof volumes identical to the existing ones and respecting the industrial identity of the site, which implied the use of interlocking terracotta tiles. The architects therefore chose the HP 2 Huguenot tile from IMERYS Toiture in the Gris Quartz color, which was close to the color of the zinc roofs of the new buildings. This flat-gauge tile also gives a contemporary touch to the roof.
In total, 2 m000 of HP 2 HUGUENOT Quartz Grey tiles from IMERYS Toiture were installed by the company Vaganay, responsible for the timber frame/roofing package.
