Knauf Insulation launches Urbanscape GreenRoof, an innovative and easy-to-install extensive greening solution

Knauf Insulation, an insulation expert, has innovated with Urbanscape GreenRoof, a lightweight, extensive greening system for inaccessible terraces and roofs with a slope of 20% or less.

Featuring low thickness and high water retention capacity, Urbanscape GreenRoof is made up of three layers:

Urbanscape Drain, a drainage sheet made of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) which promotes the evacuation of excess water and prevents roots from suffocating in the event of water stagnation,

Urbanscape GreenRoll, a binder-free rock wool rooting medium specially needle-punched to form a compact and stable felt. Thanks to its ultra-absorbent properties, it guarantees good rooting of the sedum mat as well as water retention and conservation,

·     

Urbanscape Sedum, a layer of sedum-type vegetation in the form of a pre-cultivated roll 1 to 2,5 m long, comprising 10 to 12 different species of sedum perfectly suited to roof exposure.

Universal, Urbanscape GreenRoof is suitable for all types of buildings (residential, non-residential, industrial in urban areas) whether new or renovated, and adapts to all load-bearing elements (concrete, steel, wood). It can be applied directly to root-resistant waterproofing coatings, laid in adhesion, semi-independently, or mechanically fixed. It can also be installed on inverted roofs.

Particularly lightweight, Urbanscape GreenRoof weighs 44,1 to 58,9 kg/m2 at saturation, compared to 85 to 130 kg/m2 for traditional systems. Thanks to its Urbanscape GreenRoll rooting layer, which is 8 to 10 times lighter and up to 70% more absorbent than traditional substrates, this system allows green roofs to be designed on almost any building with steel or wood load-bearing elements without compromising the stability of the structure. In addition, it helps reduce the costs associated with sizing pipes, rainwater harvesting systems and wastewater treatment plants. Finally, it allows the length of the drip system to be almost halved in geographical areas requiring automatic irrigation.

Thanks to its weight up to 20 times lighter and delivery to the construction site in rolls, Urbanscape GreenRoof is quick and easy to install. It requires no heavy tools and is easy to install, with no risk of puncturing the waterproofing. In one day, a team of four people can install approximately 250 m² of green roof (excluding separation devices and gravel), a time saving of nearly 2%.
