The renovation of the Louvre des Antiquaires made possible thanks to Layher
To carry out the necessary renovation work, the specialist company Das ravalement chose Layher to erect the scaffolding essential to the project. The 10 m² of façade was covered with structures, the largest of which has a surface area of 000 m², but which in no way impede the visibility of the windows, access to the parking lots, and pedestrian traffic.

Giant scaffolding in the heart of Paris
Located in Place du Palais Royal, opposite the Louvre Museum, the Louvre des Antiquaires brings together 10 galleries, 000 artistic specialties and works from Europe, Asia and the Middle East over 2 m250 in a historic 30th-century building.
Due to age and pollution, renovation work has been underway since June 2009 and will continue until March 2010.
This is the company THE RAVALEMENT, specializing in the renovation of facades, who was commissioned to give this historic building a facelift.
An impressive amount of scaffolding
The work concerns the 10 m² of facades and roofs of all the buildings between rue de Rivoli, rue St Honoré, Place du Palais Royal and rue Marengo.
To work safely with systems specifically adapted to the trades involved, DAS RAVALEMENT called on LAYHER and its scaffolding systems.
These were assembled in several phases, the largest of which covers 6 m². An exceptional amount of equipment!
LAYHER's technical expertise comes to the aid of the Louvre's Antique Dealers
Although the work will enhance the façades, the Louvre's Antique Dealers fear a loss of visibility in the short term.
The LAYHER structure reassured them since its layout was studied in a very specific way to leave their storefronts visible as well as access to the various parking lots and maintain pedestrian traffic, particularly around the bus shelters.
On the first level of its structure, LAYHER has therefore reduced ground supports to a minimum (feet connected to large beams). While this meets the demands of shopkeepers and represents a significant saving, each post is subject to significant load transfers since the scaffolding itself rests on them.
The LAYHER design office therefore carried out an in-depth study so that this first level would provide the foundation for the entire scaffolding while remaining ventilated.
On Rue de Rivoli, for example, the installation in the arcades was done using cantilevered scaffolding to maintain the passage of buses.
The mesh, mostly 3.07m for reasons of economy, is accompanied by continuous lattice beams to connect to the structure placed on the ground.
The ornate facades also required specific adjustments such as the advances on the rounded brisi to access the roofs.
In addition, thanks to its scalability, the UNIVERSEL® LAYHER equipment perfectly meets these specific needs and allows compliance with the legislation requiring scaffolding to be 20 cm from the facade.
The floor levels were also set according to the client's needs, including for the lead work on the balconies.
In total, 4 tonnes of scaffolding will have been supplied for the four facades.
Security and discretion
In busy streets as well as on more traditional construction sites, safety is at the heart of LAYHER systems. Whether in terms of equipment or signage, everything has been done to ensure maximum safety for road traffic, tourists, and passersby.
The DAS RAVALEMENT installers were provided with the LAYHER permanent guardrail, designed to require only one person to easily fix the element. by positioning it and then engaging it by tilting it, whereas previously both sides had to be positioned at the same time by two fitters.
The final safety guardrail protects the fitters as they are installed and thus the “MDS” scaffolding therefore includes “safety during assembly, dismantling, or transformation of the scaffolding” as stipulated in article R 233-13-31 of the decree of December 21, 2004.
The equipment was delivered with the utmost discretion, very early in the morning and very late in the evening, so as not to disturb traffic or passers-by, and again for safety reasons.
As the culmination of such grandiose scaffolding, LAYHER designed a tarpaulin frame on the Place du Palais Royal, intended to accommodate, across the entire façade, a work by Catherine Feff, urban artist, and her Grand Format team.
Responsiveness, availability of equipment, expertise of the design office and great mastery of safety were the assets of LAYHER acclaimed by DAS RAVALEMENT.
UNIVERSEL® from LAYHER: the reference
LAYHER invented the UNIVERSEL® system to provide scaffolding users with a safe, easy-to-implement and scalable solution, whatever the type of construction site to be carried out:
•· Unparalleled assembly speed thanks to the disc that automatically centers the moldings at right angles. No more time wasted measuring and checking plumb lines, or tightening bolts. Simply insert the head onto the disc, lock with the key, and a simple hammer blow will create rigidity capable of distributing the forces.
•· Scalability of existing hardware, up to 8 connections at different angles on a single disk
•· Cost control
•· Wide range of standard accessories
•· Enhanced security through guaranteed blocking
UNIVERSEL® equipment is suitable for all types of scaffolding: service or façade scaffolding, suspended scaffolding, fixed or rolling towers, decks; regardless of the difficulties associated with the site or the anchoring conditions.
