Buildings, a new area of investigation for networks and sustainability
In Metz, in mid-October, Ideal Connaissances and Moselle institutions are co-organizing a forum linking the construction sector to networks and sustainable development. Indeed, thanks to the considerable progress made in home automation, it is now possible to communicate with one's home, program heating and lighting, and thus achieve energy savings through better controlled consumption.

3rd National Forum on Communication Networks
“Communicating buildings that support sustainable development”
In Metz, October 12 and 13, 2010
To be a country at the forefront of innovation, it is important to position itself on the solutions provided by communication networks. Thanks to automation, new technologies, and innovations in the construction sector, it is possible to provide the French population with more comfortable, more economical, safer, and more scalable buildings. The Moselle Electrical Installers' Union (SIEM) organized the "Communication Network Forum" in Metz in 2006 and 2007, which addressed the challenges of networks in the residential and tertiary sectors. With the support of IDEAL, SIEM, the Moselle Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) and the Moselle Chamber of Trades and Crafts (CMA) wished to broaden the audience of the next edition to the national level and organize in Metz the "3rd National Forum of Communication Networks" on October 12 and 13, 2010 at the National School of Arts and Crafts of Metz.
WHY A FORUM ON COMMUNICATION NETWORKS?
The Internet has revolutionized the way we communicate, and it's not going to stop there! Without predicting the end of the telephone, we can already say that digital technology has a bright future ahead of it and easily compare the development of broadband networks to what universal access to running water was.
It seems essential today in all circumstances (construction, improvement, equipment, renovation), to adopt construction provisions to prepare buildings for the installation of all their networks and their developments.
Building on the findings of new technological solutions, the electrical industry has mobilized to master the new characteristics of residential installations. For the first time in France, a forum is bringing together specialists on this subject in Metz...
Organised at the initiative of SIEM and its Federation, the FFIE (the French Federation of Electrical Installers), the CCI and the CMA of Moselle, this Forum will bring together professionals in the sector: electrical installers, but also all prescribers (social landlords, architects, design offices, local authorities, etc.).
MULTIPLE CHALLENGES
Could communication networks be the be-all and end-all of sustainable development? Judging by Lorraine's expertise, the answer is a resounding yes! This forum will be an opportunity for participants to meet SMEs and SMIs in the Lorraine region thanks to a dedicated exhibition space. Offering a new form of housing, optimizing energy consumption, and improving security conditions, this event aims to demonstrate the benefits of communication networks, both on the competitiveness and attractiveness of buildings, enabling social development and improved environmental qualities, and on the economic development of the companies involved.
In terms of social development:
Using communication networks when you become less mobile (age, disability, etc.) is a major challenge. This allows you to maintain an independent lifestyle, both personally and professionally. In addition, the solutions provided are very useful.
with able-bodied people.
In terms of economic development:
Network development creates jobs at both the national and local levels. It contributes to the growth of companies involved in the installation of these technologies and associated products.
In terms of improving environmental qualities:
Communication networks are a key lever for energy management. Some players in the electricity sector have created offerings that allow for the management of electricity consumption via the electricity grid. Flat-rate systems may be offered, similar to those available in the telephone industry, with billing for overruns during peak hours. Furthermore, load shedding systems may also be managed directly at the customer's premises by an operator.
