The characteristic curved shape of the Berlin "HumboldtHafenEins" building immediately catches the eye. This new city landmark stands out as an exemplary sustainable building. This architectural achievement earned its designer, OVG Real Estate, the Platinum Medal from the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen" (DGNB) at Expo Real 2015. Warema plays a prominent role among the project's stakeholders. Its optimal sun protection system saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions.

Covering approximately 40,000 square meters, the HumboldtHafenEins is located on a historic site between the government district and the central railway station. The building houses the headquarters of the auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers and the pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur MSD. Its architects, KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten, have set new standards in modern architecture.

Sustainable in every detail

The building is particularly energy-efficient. It is one of the ten most sustainable office buildings in Germany. To achieve this level of excellence, the materials were carefully selected based on their lifespan and low CO2 emissions. Equipped with intelligent technology, the building regulates artificial light based on daylight intensity. "HumboldtHafenEins" also features an integrated biogas-based cogeneration plant, ventilation systems with XNUMX percent heat recovery, and a buried heat and cold storage system. The triple-glazed façade increases energy efficiency thanks to exceptional insulation values.

Warema, a leader in daylight management, provides the essential know-how for intelligent sun protection solutions. Privacy and glare protection enable optimal working conditions, even in the event of excessive sunlight. The offices are equipped with approximately 1,300 vertical blinds with 89-millimeter-wide slats. To combat the heat, some 1,800 external venetian blinds provide effective protection. Sensor technology regulates the incidence of solar energy. This optimizes the incidence of light to utilize sufficient daylight without glare. Depending on the time of day and season, the systems effectively adjust the solar gain. Aligning the venetian blinds according to the position of the sun achieves the perfect balance between controlled use of natural light and optimal protection against the heat.
