EPIV: the new standard for regulating variable flow hydraulic installations

Belimo now offers a new variable flow control valve for hydraulic installations, ideal for applications involving medium to high power (in new construction and renovation, in collective residential, commercial or industrial buildings): the EPIV.

Belimo

Resulting from the combination of a flow sensor, a sealed control valve and a servomotor, the EPIV, an extension of the PICCV range, is an essential asset in the energy optimization of HVAC climate engineering installations.

Combined with a magnetic flow meter, it maintains the regulated flow rate stable regardless of fluctuations in differential pressure generated by the variation in flow rate of the hydraulic network.

The EPIV is designed to regulate flow rates above 8,5 m3/h. It is available in different sizes, ranging from DN65 to DN150.

An economical multi-function valve

The EPIV valve not only has an extremely efficient regulation function, it also ensures:

•▪ “Dynamic” hydraulic balancing essential for controlling the flow rates of the installation;

•▪ Waterproofing, essential for comfort control and energy optimization;

Depending on the version, it allows the use of additional functions such as energy monitoring in combination with MPBus technology.

The EPIV's multifunctionality provides the flexibility needed to scale up installations. Whether the system is partially commissioned or expanded, optimal operation is always ensured by the equipment's self-adaptation to changing conditions.

In addition, all these functions combined in a single device significantly reduce the overall cost compared to a traditional system since it replaces a control valve (no more need for a balancing method), the balancing valve and an isolation valve.

Performance in the service of climate engineering

Belimo has invested its know-how to give the EPIV great performance:

•▪ high control precision (VDE/VDI 2178);

•▪ dynamic balancing (self-adaptation of the system to variations in the hydraulic conditions of the network);

•▪ adjustment precision, even for low flow rates (+/- 10% of the actual flow rate);

•▪ the absence of minimum differential pressure required (DP = 0,4 bar at 100% of the nominal flow rate);

•▪ the uselessness of implementing a balancing method (flow limitation at the valve level, “Plug and Play” principle);

•▪ permanent flow information (magnetic flow sensor);

•▪ the insensitivity of the flow measurement to additives such as glycol;

•▪ its long lifespan (endurance tests with more than 100 cycles - one cycle = 000° to 0° to 90°);

•▪ the achievement of significant energy savings at zero loads (waterproof up to 16 bars);

•▪ optimization of labor (very reduced installation and commissioning times).

Many advantages for installers

The EPIV allows installers to respond more easily to the requirements of design offices since:

  • A single valve provides regulation, balancing and isolation

•▪ Small footprint;

•▪ Ease of assembly;

•▪ Labor savings (assembly and adjustment);

  • Dynamic hydraulic balancing is integrated

•▪ Commissioning reduced to a minimum by a simple flow limitation;

•▪ Limitation of the nominal flow rate using the PC Tool software and/or the ZTH-GEN box;

•▪ Elimination of the standard hydraulic balancing procedure;

  • Sizing is simplified

•▪ Selection made directly according to the flow rate to be regulated;

•▪ No calculation of Kvs, pressure drop or authority;

  • Its economic positioning is attractive thanks to the technology of the sealed regulating ball valve.

Like all "standard" products in the Belimo range, the EPIV is guaranteed for 5 years.
