Les Zelles meets the highest acoustic requirements on the market!

Focus: Les Zelles equips 568 homes located near a motorway

Soundproofing is a pervasive issue for housing projects in urban areas. Against external noise, known as "road noise," windows are a central focus for designers, being combined with the roller shutter box and natural ventilation, which is now mandatory. Les Zelles' technical solution already exceeds the levels set by the legislation for new buildings (NRA*). The Boulevard Bréguet construction site in Vélizy (78), located opposite the A86 motorway and a few hundred meters from the Villacoublay military base, required a high level of soundproofing, which Les Zelles was able to meet.

Attenuation levels adapted to noisy urban environments

The technical study, carried out by acousticians prior to the construction site, precisely determines the acoustic attenuation indices of the façade elements, for each dwelling according to its sound environment. This performance objective is set by regulations and adapted according to the size of the room and its exposure; acoustic requirements therefore vary from one room, and from one floor to another.

For the Boulevard Breguet construction site, the design office defined acoustic attenuation indices for the glazed frames ranging from 28 to 40 dB, requiring maximum values of 40 dB for the joinery, 55 dB for the roller shutter box and 41 dB for the ventilation grille.

The technical response from Les Zelles for the Boulevard Breguet construction site:

– Sym 40 dB joinery combined with a 110 mm frame, the level of attenuation of which is modulated thanks to the choice of double glazing.

– Eclipse roller shutter box with one of the best coefficients on the market (57 dB).

– A ventilation grille in the masonry incorporating a sound trap, which reaches 40 dB. Beyond 38 dB of acoustic requirement, the ventilation grille must be separated from the woodwork.

From assembly to implementation…

As with thermal insulation, any lack of waterproofing in the facades leads to a lack of sound insulation. To ensure optimal performance for each product installed, Les Zelles controls the progress of each "strategic" stage.

The assembly of the bay unit consisting of Sym joinery and the Eclipse or Verso roller shutter box is systematically carried out in the factory. This process guarantees an optimal connection between the two elements, avoiding losses at their junction. Certified NF bay unit, Les Zelles assures its customers of excellent assembly quality of its bay units and accurate and maintained performance over time. Implementation on site is also managed by Les Zelles.

This is a delicate operation, since the installer ensures a watertight connection (fixing, joints, etc.) between the frame of the joinery and the masonry.

- What is the impact of acoustic constraints on your geographical area?

All of the projects we carry out in the Île-de-France region are subject to a preliminary acoustic study. New building plots are increasingly located close to road and rail traffic routes. This is due to the proliferation of real estate developments in the inner and outer suburbs and the land constraints of recent years.

Furthermore, recent studies demonstrate the impact of noise pollution on residents. Soundproofing is therefore becoming a priority for all housing projects.

- What are the strengths of the Les Zelles company in relation to this issue?

We know the market well and have been addressing this issue for several years. Our Research & Development department systematically adapts our products to the needs of each project: for windows through the choice of glazing and for roller shutter boxes, through the integration of different insulating materials.

We therefore offer a so-called "monobloc" solution combining joinery and roller shutter, which guarantees overall acoustic reduction.
