After twelve months of work, the new nursery, located within the Saint-Louis Hospital in the 2021th arrondissement of Paris, opened its doors in February XNUMX. The architects of the Janez Nguyen agency (Robert Janez and Emmanuel Nguyen), in collaboration with the Linia agency, designed an innovative nursery, which can be assembled and dismantled.

An innovative and sustainable architectural project that appeals with its healthy interior environment

With a surface area of 600 m², it is characterized by its wooden frame, its zinc envelope and its healthy indoor climate. At the heart of the historic buildings of the Saint-Louis hospital, between the chapel and the square courtyard, this modern building with fluid lines improves sound comfort thanks to its acoustic panels made of real wood. This project is part of a vast program of construction of innovative daycare centers in the city. It consists of optimizing Parisian land with modular and dismantlable structures, easily recyclable and repositionable according to needs.

The Saint-Louis daycare center was awarded the 2021 Île-de-France Regional Wood Construction Award in the "Learning and Having Fun" category. The Regional Wood Construction Award (PRCB) aims to promote woodworking projects in the Île-de-France region. The jury selected 10 winners in 2021.

A harmonious building, integrated into the architecture of the site

The Saint-Louis daycare center has 48 cribs divided into three reception sections, four development rooms, and four sleep rooms. These spaces are dedicated to welcoming all ages of early childhood. The architects delivered a subtle design, capable of blending into the surrounding urban fabric, with fluid lines, specific features, and textures. True to the architectural style, the building also respects the heritage environment of this historic site. We faced multiple challenges, including integrating the project into a regulated heritage environment and maintaining the continuity of hospital activities during the works. With a limited site footprint, we had to construct an environmentally friendly building., says Robert Janez of the Janez Nguyen architecture firm.

A sustainable and demountable building, characterized by its wooden prefabrication

The City of Paris's specifications and the various program requirements placed this project in line with innovative buildings. The nursery is characterized by its prefabricated wood construction and its ability to be dismantled or reused using the dry process method. Consequently, it will be possible to return the plot to the hospital with a lower budget. Finally, the architects designed a green roof that contributes to water retention, but also to the preservation of animal and plant biodiversity. The building offers two contrasting facades: a perforated zinc lacework envelope, facing the public and hospital users; and a more intimate and warm facade, intended for children. The latter is made of wood and glazing. Finally, the roof is planted to accommodate biodiversity and offer views towards a natural space from the surrounding overhanging buildings. ", describes Emmanuel Nguyen.

The acoustic panels were also chosen for their quiet quality. Controlling noise levels in a nursery is essential to children's well-being. Wooden acoustic panels guarantee a quieter environment that is highly beneficial for children's language development.

High-performance acoustic panels for ceiling cladding

The interior design focuses on simplicity and bio-sourced, environmentally friendly materials. The wooden structure is thus visible throughout the building. The architects chose LIGNO Acoustique light acoustic panels to cover the ceilings of the spaces dedicated to children and circulation in the building. Join We used these panels for their technical performance and to provide a healthy and warm atmosphere for young children. " notes Robert Janez.

These lightweight acoustic panels made of cross-laminated white fir are ideal for both new buildings and renovations, providing aesthetically pleasing interior design with optimal acoustics. LIGNO Acoustique Light panels are mounted on a substructure, which is attached directly to the wall or ceiling. Lighting can also be factory-integrated.

LIGNO Acoustique light panels are natureplus certified for their quality in terms of organic construction.
