Fighting pigeons in urban areas with Augias

Summary for decision-makers

Augias, the leading franchise network in the cleaning sector, offers innovative solutions for managing pigeon populations in urban environments. These birds carry diseases and can damage buildings, posing a health risk, particularly for children. Augias' methods rely on relocating and scaring pigeons using certified falconers, followed by sterilizing eggs in dedicated dovecotes. These solutions, which are part of the ISO 14001 approach, guarantee effectiveness while respecting animal life and are suitable for city centers as well as industrial and agricultural sites.

Augias recently carried out an intervention at the Annemasse-Bonneville Intercommunal Hospital Center, where a team cleaned up pigeon droppings and installed spikes to prevent their presence around treatment areas. This method, recommended by the Animal Protection League, ensures patient safety without jeopardizing the health of the birds. Founded in 1997, Augias stands out for its proximity to customers and its commitment to sustainable cleanliness, integrating maintenance and disinfection services, and a social network.

Carriers of disease, bacteria, and building damage, pigeons can become a real scourge for cities. To combat them effectively while respecting animal life, Augias has implemented several solutions: falconers, the installation of dedicated dovecotes to control population growth, and the installation of spikes.

Ecological solutions for pigeon management in urban areas

Augias offers solutions

As the leading franchise network in the cleaning sector, Augias develops alternative concepts for managing pigeon populations. Pigeons are vectors of disease and cause damage to buildings, making them a real scourge in urban environments.

There are several causes behind the development of pigeon populations in urban and industrial areas: absence of predators, uncontrolled feeding, domestication, etc.
While noise pollution affects the lives of city dwellers, there is also an invisible danger linked to communicable diseases. Bacterial, viral, and parasitic diseases such as salmonella and chlamydia (bacteria responsible for respiratory infections) pose a significant risk, especially for children, who are rarely aware of this danger.

FALCONERS TO COMBINE EFFICIENCY AND RESPECT FOR ANIMAL LIFE

As part of its ISO 14001 certification, Augias has developed highly effective solutions based on respect for animal life.
They consist of moving and scaring the pigeons by authorized falconers and then installing the birds in a specific dovecote in order to sterilize the eggs and ensure total control over the development of the populations. Pigeons thus fixed in a defined living space and easily monitored by a veterinarian no longer cause any nuisance and no longer represent a risk.
These Green-Tech methods are particularly suited to city centers, historic monuments, but also to the industrial or agricultural sector (hot corners of factories or grain silos, for example).

INSTALLATION OF PICKS AND CLEANING OF THE ANNEMASSE HOSPITAL

Augias, through its franchised agency in Arenthon (Haute-Savoie), carried out a cleaning of droppings and the installation of pigeon spikes at the CHI (Intercommunal Hospital Center) in Annemasse-Bonneville.
The numerous pigeons present around the hospital landed near the treatment rooms, threatening the most vulnerable patients with contamination by the germs contained in the droppings.
Augean technicians first carried out a low-pressure cleaning to remove the droppings, before placing picks in strategic locations, particularly on the windowsills on the different floors.
This highly effective spike system, due to its repellent effect, poses no threat to the health of birds. It is also recommended by the Animal Protection League.
