Measure your legionella levels with Testo solutions

By André Sudrie - PR Agency   Published on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 02:00 AM

Since the beginning of 2010, facilities for the elderly have been required to regularly check their hot water pipes for Legionella levels. To provide accurate and reliable readings, Testo has developed various thermometer solutions whose data analysis prevents the growth of these bacteria by responding promptly in the event of an incident.

Prevention of Legionnaires' disease

Testo solutions for healthcare, social and medico-social establishments for the elderly

Since July 1, 2010, all healthcare establishments open to the public (ERP) must measure the presence of legionella at least once a year in

its domestic hot water production, storage and distribution facilities* (Order of February 1, 2010 relating to the monitoring of legionella).

This decree requires, from July 1, 2010, that health establishments measure domestic hot water temperatures at least once a day (or continuously):

• output of domestic hot water production(s) (distribution),

• loop return.

This decree also requires operators to measure at least once a week (or continuously):

• the most representative risky usage points in the network and the usage points furthest from domestic hot water production.

• representative points of use located in departments receiving patients identified by the nosocomial infection control committee or

any organization responsible for the same responsibilities as particularly vulnerable to the risk of Legionnaires' disease.

Legionellosis

Legionnaires' disease is a respiratory infection caused by bacteria such as Legionella. Legionella are bacteria naturally present in fresh water and thrive when the temperature is between 25 and 42°C.

To ensure continuous and effective monitoring of installations, Testo offers various devices that enable sampling, temperature measurements, analyses and traceability at all domestic hot water draw-off points.

* The application of this directive will be extended from January 1, 2011 to hotels and tourist residences, campsites, penitentiary establishments, and from January 01, 2012 to all ERP (Establishments Receiving the Public).

Measurement of usage points with alarms

The testo 110 is a thermometer equipped with an audible alarm that provides direct information when the threshold is exceeded at various hot water usage points.

The immersion probe supplied with the testo 110 device makes temperature measurements easier.

Spot check on departure/return

DHW production (Domestic Hot Water)

The testo 922 is a dual-channel thermometer that allows two temperature readings to be taken simultaneously and the differential value to be displayed.

The testo 922, equipped with its two Velcro probes, is the ideal tool for measuring the flow/return temperatures of domestic hot water.

Thanks to its infrared connection, all data can be printed on site with the testo printer either one-off or in cycles (e.g. by automatically triggering a printout every minute).

Non-contact distance measurement with laser sighting

The testo 830 is an infrared thermometer with laser marking for rapid, contactless temperature measurements.

The testo 830 range is available in several versions with 1-point or 2-point marking.

It is possible to connect a contact probe and different optics to the device, allowing you to work remotely or up close.

Temperature measurement with alarms and possible recording

The testo 735 is a thermometer with a recording function that allows you to store temperature values for processing on a PC.

This thermometer adapts to all temperature-taking situations thanks to its connections. It is possible, with a single device, to measure

domestic hot water flow/return temperatures and the various hot water usage points.

The testo 735 can also alert the operator when a threshold is exceeded, save and/or print on site.

testo 175-T3

Production start/return recorder

ECS

Monitoring temperatures on the domestic hot water network significantly limits the risk of Legionella.

The testo 175-T3 is a stand-alone data logger with two external temperature probes for monitoring the balancing of domestic hot water networks. A permanent display on the front of the device provides information on the temperature measured on both channels and also indicates any exceedances of pre-programmed thresholds.

This information is relayed by a visual alarm. A data collector is available to collect the information on site without having to move the recorder.

testo SAVERIS

Automated temperature and humidity monitoring station

testo SAVERIS is ideal for monitoring the DHW network (Legionellosis risk) or for ambient conditions.

The testo SAVERIS radio or Ethernet temperature modules are permanently installed on the hot water network flows/returns with the possibility of

connect up to 4 external temperature probes with internal backup memory.

Models are available with or without a display. The base unit is the heart of the system and stores the data. The entire system is very easy to install.

The operator is constantly informed of the status of his installation.

For temperature monitoring in the context of Legionnaires' disease and in the event of a temperature above 50°C, email or SMS alarms are sent.

automatically.

testo SAVERIS works completely autonomously, without a PC, and produces automatic reports in PDF format that can be sent by email monthly.

Testo France: 30 years already
