New balcony prototype at INSA Strasbourg: KAWNEER supports architectural intelligence
KAWNEER partner of INSA Strasbourg
For three years, architecture and engineering students at the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) in Strasbourg have been working on the "INSA Balconies," an experimental extension prototype that has just been completed. KAWNEER, a specialist in aluminum architectural systems and a partner in the project, provided the technical support and aluminum materials needed to manufacture the prototype.
The challenge was to carry out an energy-efficient renovation while preserving the large bay windows from the 50s for their heritage value and their thermal contribution. The final result is a glass-enclosed extension, placed on a concrete slab as an extension of an office, which extends the second floor of the building by nearly 5 meters.
In return for the partnership established with KAWNEER, the students must conduct a Research & Development study for the company on the energy and living comfort impacts of facade extension solutions in existing buildings. This partnership, which runs until August 2018, is part of KAWNEER's overall approach to innovation and commitment to future generations.
