New overflow protection accessories for Tegra Wavin manholes

Due to climate change (heavy rainfall and drought) and population growth, wastewater flow in sewer systems is increasing, saturating pipes that have become undersized and overloaded. Cities must take action to address these fluctuations in flow and prevent overflows that harm the environment.

As a supplier of innovative products for construction and public works, Wavin actively collaborates with technical departments and decision-makers in cities and communities to provide them with tailor-made solutions. This synergy, present at all stages of the project, enabled the Wavin research and development department teams to design new accessories for Tegra manholes to combat overflows. The new partial sealing kits and the new Tegra 1000G2 Wavin sealing blade allow for better control and diversion of overflow flows to address overflow issues or authorize work on the network.

For sanitation networks

New Tegra Wavin manhole accessories ensure the proper functioning of sewerage networks

Tegra Wavin inspection chambers provide access to sanitation systems and make monitoring and maintenance easier and more flexible.

To avoid the risk of wastewater overflowing into the natural environment during heavy rains, it is preferable to set up a separate sanitation system that collects wastewater and rainwater separately. When switching from a combined network to a separate network, it is important to be able to control the flow in dry or wet weather. Positioned at the outlet of manholes, the new Wavin partial plugs reduce the flow section by 5% to 50%, thus preventing overflows in the networks. As for the new Wavin plug shovels, they can plug the inlets and outlets of Tegra 1000G2 manholes during maintenance operations in sanitation networks.

To create a singular point on the network and protect it against overflows

Developed to meet the needs of cities, the Wavin partial closure kit for Tegra 600/800 inspection box and Tegra 1000G2 inspection chamber acts as a system of adjustable blades depending on the percentage of flow that is desired (between 50 and 95%). From the moment the combined network increases in load, the shutter forces the overflow water to pass into the rainwater network, which helps to unclog the combined network, which tends to overload at low points. Diverted to another passage, the overflow does not overflow.
Modular and made of PVC that is highly resistant to chemical attacks from wastewater, the new Wavin partial sealing kit is really very easy to install. The adjustment is very easy thanks to a removable plate and predefined adjustable positions. Simply position the 2 fixing screws on the fixed part corresponding to the % of remaining passage section (between 50 and 95%).

The new Wavin shovels are efficient and allow for the quick and reliable sealing of Wavin Tegra 1000G2 manholes. Mainly used during repair and maintenance work, they are designed for gravity-fed wastewater and rainwater drainage networks. Available in 200 or 250/315 mm diameters, these plugging shovels block manhole inlets or outlets during maintenance operations in sanitation networks.

Work to separate the town of Dinard (35)

Wavin provides its expertise and valuable assistance to communities keen to benefit from efficient networks to meet the expected future challenges in sanitation. Wavin's expertise was selected for the sanitation work in the town of Dinard (35). The objective of this project is to take over all of the town's sanitation networks and move from a combined network to a separate network in order to limit discharges into the natural environment and guarantee the quality of bathing water and their ecosystems.

Christian Fontaine, Deputy for Works and Urban Planning for the city of Dinard, explains : " Water management is a priority for us. We have the ambitious project of taking over all of our city's sewerage networks. Thus, 60% of Dinard's networks, which are currently in a combined network, will be modified to become separate networks over the next ten years... This work on the sewerage networks helps limit their saturation and effluent overflow into the natural environment. Its objective is to preserve the environment and bathing water. When you leave a separate network, you have to take over the secondary network so that the wastewater flows into their pipes and the overflow is pushed back into the rainwater. At some point, the flows are excessive, and we approached the Wavin company to install specific equipment. The ease of installation, modularity, and adaptability of the new partial closure kits perfectly met our expectations for this project. Indeed, these new features are very easy to position and can be modified according to needs and existing equipment. As networks expand, we can easily change and move these plates. »

Maxime Le Bret, Sanitation Network Technician for the city of Dinard adds: « On this network renovation project, we have problems with the junctions between the combined network and the future separate network with the collection of combined water (mixed wastewater and rainwater). Positioned at the outlet of the manholes, the new Wavin partial shutters reduce the flow section and thus prevent overflows in the networks. The flow in dry weather is evacuated and when the water level rises, the water is forced to be discharged into the rainwater network. Wavin was able to support us and remain attentive to meet the specific needs of this type of project. »
