Replacing an entire asbestos fiber cement roof is time-consuming and often requires significant investment. To renovate the roof of their car dealership and avoid any business interruptions during the project, the managers of this company, located in Caudan, Morbihan, opted for an over-roof renovation using the ONDUCLAIR RENOV FC system offered by ONDULINE.

A 4 m200 asbestos roof renovated

The legislation governing the renovation of an asbestos roof imposes numerous constraints. Removing an asbestos roof can quickly become costly, as it requires the services of a specialized company certified under Section 3 of the French Labor Code. This company must ensure the safety of the entire site within a very strict legislative framework, which, in the case of this car dealership, risked rendering the premises inaccessible while a new roof was being dismantled and then installed.

However, the age of the building's roof made it prone to infiltration problems, which presented risks to the health of employees.

The building consists of three halls, each covered with a 3 m² corrugated asbestos fiber cement roof, for a total surface area of 1 m². Given the size of the area to be renovated and the economic constraints, it was decided to keep the old roof and cover it without drilling with a suitable material. A lightweight solution had to be chosen, one that could be supported by the existing framework.

Romuald Bigot, sales manager at La Maison de l'Étancheur, and Michel Provost, manager of the CCBI-approved roofing company Onduline, in charge of the project, proposed the ONDUCLAIR RENOV FC system, the application of which offers numerous advantages.

ONDUCLAIR RENOV FC

Economical and effective solution

The ONDUCLAIR RENOV FC system is an effective over-roofing solution, in terms of waterproofing and insulation, which allows strict compliance with "asbestos" legislation. The process consists of covering, without any drilling, the corrugated fiber cement roof of buildings. Installed on the existing plates, the corrugated and insulating elements (thickness 30, 50, 80 mm) in expanded polystyrene (ONDUCLAIR FC PSE version) will themselves be covered with reinforced polyester plates to ensure good waterproofing.

Available in a variety of colors and a wide selection of profiles, ONDUCLAIR RENOV FC adapts to the dimensions of the original roof covering. The specific fasteners "pinch" the edges of the existing fiber cement boards, ensuring they are covered without damaging them.

Other advantages: the simplicity and speed of implementation, which allow an installer to cover 10 m2 per hour; the very light weight of 3 kg per m2 of the roofing and its insulation (in ONDUCLAIR FC PSE), which avoids any overload on the existing framework.

A complete system, easy to install

The many advantages of ONDUCLAIR RENOV FC convinced the stakeholders to favor this solution.

Romuald Bigot, from La Maison de l'Étancheur, states: " We chose ONDUCLAIR RENOV FC because, given the surface area, we had a significant constraint regarding the load on the existing structure. This solution was by far the most efficient in this respect. »

The work was completed within a limited timeframe, without suspending activities or moving the dealership's infrastructure and its workshop, which would have generated a significant financial loss.

Furthermore, the length of the plates (up to 12 m) made it possible to limit the number of overlaps on the initial roof, for optimized installation, aesthetics and waterproofing.

Michel Provost, from the roofing company CCBI, adds: “ This system is very easy to install. The elements are very simple to handle, allowing for rapid completion of the project. »

The ONDUCLAIR RENOV FC range consists of a wide selection of accessories such as ridge tiles, wall connections, edges, frame plates, chimney surrounds, etc. In addition, translucent plates are available for creating skylights.

For Olivier Lafitte, team leader of the dealership's workshop, this type of renovation makes work more comfortable: " We were able to continue working throughout the entire project. We now enjoy a completely waterproof roof and improved lighting thanks to the translucent panels that were replaced. We also benefit from better thermal and acoustic insulation, which is noticeable in the event of heavy rain. »
