Pumps for viscous fluids: SALMSON industrial solutions

The transfer of viscous fluids in the chemical, petrochemical, and food processing industries requires specific, properly sized pumps. SALMSON's R-type pump range, designed for highly viscous liquids under high pressure, offers robust, modular, and high-performance solutions for a variety of fluids. Its design ensures constant flow and high reliability, with materials selected according to the nature of the fluids being handled.

The process (pumping and transport) of viscous fluids is a specific problem in the chemical, petrochemical and agri-food industries.

The pumping and conveying of viscous fluids presents a particular challenge in the chemical, petrochemical, and food processing industries. In all industrial processes, the successful transfer of viscous liquids depends on the quality and proper sizing of the pumps.

Partner of industrial, SALMSON develops ranges of pumps perfectly adapted to the problems encountered by these professionals. The R type pump range has been designed to provide an appropriate solution to pumping viscous or very viscous fluids, for low flow rates but under high pressure, in the chemical industry (solvents, paints, varnishes, etc.), petrochemicals (petroleum products and derivatives) and the food industry (animal fats, chocolates, syrups, etc.).   MATERIAL The typical pump R is available in a cast iron construction for pumping non-corrosive fluids, or in a stainless steel construction for pumping corrosive fluids. Several mechanical seals or packing glands are available depending on the fluid. Seal heating is also possible; the heating jacket is optional. Many sub-assembly variants are offered depending on the liquid handled. The design of the R-type pump is particularly robust with only 2 moving parts and a single seal. The bearings are oversized. The hydraulic part is designed on the principle of an internal gear which has the best volumetric efficiency. The R-type pump offers a constant flow rate, independent of pressure, pulsation-free and reversible. The maximum flow rate is 350 m³/h at an operating pressure of up to 16 bar. The temperature ranges extend from -40 to + 300 °C. Pumping viscous liquids is a complex process because it is unique. The temperature, flow and abrasive power of the liquids must be managed, each fluid having its own composition; there are no common solutions or methods. The difficulty lies largely in the type of pump and its use by industrial. So, SALMON studies, case by case, for each of them, scalable, flexible and efficient solutions in order to respond to the most demanding projects.

Thematic glossary

Type R pump

Robust industrial pump designed for pumping viscous or corrosive fluids under high pressure and low flow rate.

Viscous fluid

Liquid whose consistency generates significant resistance to flow during pumping.

Mechanical seal

Sealing device installed on the pump to prevent fluid leaks between fixed and moving parts.

Internal gear

Mechanical system present in the hydraulic part allowing for efficient and constant transfer of liquids.

Chemical industry

Industrial sector concerned with the transformation or use of chemical products such as solvents, paints or varnishes.
