The winners of the competition organized by FILMM give their testimony

In 2018, FILMM (the French union of manufacturers of manufactured mineral wool insulation) launched its "Renovation Insulation" competition, open to any owner of a single-family home with a highly energy-efficient renovation project involving insulation. As a gift, the three winners received the necessary mineral wool insulation for their work and agreed to share a video of their projects!

THE FILM REWARDS AMBITIOUS INSULATION PROJECTS!

Through its "Renovation Insulation" competition, FILMM rewards owners who are both keen to make long-term energy savings by insulating their property and to commit to a sustainable development project.

To compete, the “Renovation Insulation” projects had to involve insulation work (walls and roof) on a single-family home and had to be very efficient, “BBC Réno” level (R between 4 and 5 for walls and R between 7 and 10 for roofs).

The three projects with the lowest energy consumption after completion were selected by a jury. The three winners received a gift of mineral wool insulation of their choice (glass wool or rock wool), in rolls, panels, or blown-in wool.

Among them, the project of David and Stéphanie, owners of a house in Igny (91), a cinder block house from the 60s whose insulation was very insufficient or even non-existent, aware of sustainable development and preparing for the arrival of a baby...

Having learned about the competition via a website specializing in sustainable development that they used to consult, the couple contacted ADEME (the French Environment and Energy Management Agency) to receive advice on their energy renovation work and to find out about the various financial aids available to support their investment: loans, reduced VAT rates, tax credits for the energy transition, etc.

The couple was then supported in their approach by ALEC (Local Agency for Energy and Climate Management), which provided advice on the stages of the project and the materials to be used.

Stéphanie and David found and chose an RGE craftsman, allowing them to benefit from various aids.

Wanting to save energy and improve their living comfort, they developed a comprehensive insulation project: insulating all the living areas (insulating the attic and external wall insulation (ITE) with rock wool), changing all the windows, and rethinking the entire heating system.

Regarding the attic insulation, rock wool was installed in two layers over the entire roof surface. The improvement in well-being through better thermal and acoustic comfort was immediate, and the space gained was considerable: 2 new rooms were opened up, including one for the baby!

For the exterior insulation of the walls, 200mm of rock wool covered with a coating was laid.

After this renovation and insulation work, the couple cut their gas bill in half. This work demonstrates their commitment to preserving the planet.

Driven by this same desire, and also that of a heritage revaluation, Yves, owner of a large family house in Boucau (64), in which he lived for more than 20 years, wanted to take charge of the energy renovation work helped by his sister.

The old listed house suffered from considerable energy losses, particularly through the roof (insufficient level of insulation, numerous thermal bridges and air infiltration).

They insulated the roof, walls, and floors, and redesigned the interior layout with glass wool. Planning to resell the property, split into several apartments, they focused their project on improving thermal and acoustic comfort (particularly by insulating the ceilings). The insulation work will therefore reduce heating consumption and provide a comfortable living environment for future occupants, while adding value to this beautiful townhouse.

A factor in enhancing heritage and saving money, insulating a house is a virtuous act, allowing a balance to be achieved between general and private interest.

Motivated by a triple objective of energy saving, heritage enhancement and sustainable development, Perrine and Pol-Maël, young owners in Lannilis (29) near Brest, had a project to insulate an old damp building.

Their choice immediately fell on glass wool, representing the best value for money: high performance at reasonable costs!

The construction stages moved quickly, from the installation of joinery and then the metal and wood frames upstairs. Glass wool was installed between the frame uprights with a vapor barrier and an integrated airtightness system. For roof insulation, the RGE professional installed a system of hangers and cross-insulation to perfectly match the shape of the existing roof frame.

In March, the young couple was able to heat the entire house using only the pellet stove on the ground floor, installed to replace their old oil-fired heating system (without using heating upstairs), thus achieving considerable energy savings. More broadly, the insulation also allowed for a significant increase in the value of the property for possible resale.
