Summary for decision-makers

In 2023, France recorded over 254,000 fire-related incidents, representing one fire every two minutes. A quarter of these fires originated from faulty electrical installations, causing 450 deaths and 10,000 injuries each year, with annual losses exceeding €4 billion. To improve safety, regulations concerning cables in public access buildings (ERP) and high-rise buildings (IGH) will be tightened starting in 2025.

Prysmian launches IgniTech™, innovative cables that slow the spread of flames, reduce smoke toxicity and opacity, and facilitate evacuation. Specifically designed for installers, they combine compliance, ease of installation, fire safety, and adherence to environmental standards.

With the entry into force of the new fire regulations applicable to Public Access Buildings (ERP) and High-Rise Buildings (IGH), Prysmian, a global leader in cable systems for energy and telecommunications, announces the launch ofIgniTech™A new range of halogen-free cables with improved fire resistance. Compliant withEuroclass Cca-s2, d2, a2, these cables embody Prysmian's commitment to enhanced security for people and property.

A NEW GENERATION OF CABLES FOR ENHANCED FIRE SAFETY IN PUBLIC BUILDINGS AND HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS

A public safety issue

With 254 interventions in 200, a fire every two minutes, fire safety is a major issue. A quarter of fires are linked to a faulty electrical installation, causing each year 450 deaths and 10 injured, 70% of which are due to toxic fumes.

Faced with this risk, the Ministry of the Interior strengthens from 2025 cable regulations for public buildings and high-rise buildings. These requirements will improve disaster prevention and reduce the human and material consequences, in a context where fires represent every year more than 4 billion euros in losses.

IgniTech™, a concrete and innovative response

Developed by Prysmian's R&D teams, the cables IgniTech™ are designed to:

  • significantly slow the spread of flames,
  • reduce the fall of flaming droplets,
  • minimize the acidity of the emitted gases,
  • limit the opacity of fumes.

They thus facilitate the evacuation of occupants and the intervention of emergency services. Thanks to thermoplastic polyolefin sheath technology and advanced flame-retardant materials, the cables form a protective barrier in case of fire et maintain their electrical performance under extreme conditions.

The launch ofIgniTech™ marks a new step in Prysmian's desire to strengthen its role as trusted partner with building professionals. By offering them solutions that comply with regulations, are fire-safe and easy to install, the group reaffirms its mission: constantly innovate to better protect people and buildings.

Designed for installers, in full compliance with standards

In addition to its technical performance, IgniTech™ is distinguished by:

  • un easy unsheathing thanks to the exclusive solution IgniTech™ Isy (5 to 10 times less pressure required),
  • des colored edging per cable section, annotable, allowing identification of sections for simplified installation and storage,
  • another simplified installation and equipment designed for limit repetitive gestures, reduce the risk of error et improve efficiency on construction sites.

A sustainable ambition

Halogen-free, low CO₂ emissions, in accordance with European regulations, IgniTech™ is part of Prysmian's strategy of offering solutions combining safety, respect for the environment and high technology.
