SALMSON's PBS and SIE pumps, a major player in the field of pumps and pumping systems, were selected for their reliability and energy performance. In operation since January 2011, they will eventually supply the entire site, which has a total surface area of 25 m².

The CRLC is a non-profit healthcare facility based in Montpellier, providing a public hospital service, recognized as being of public utility. It is composed of several buildings, constructed as the hospital center grew. From an energy perspective, each building was independent and generally operated using reversible thermodynamic systems, sometimes combined with electric heating. Based on recommendations from the BETSO INGENIERIE design office, the CRLC optimized and streamlined the heat and cold production facilities of the "Energy Center."

In order to meet the comfort and well-being needs of the 650 professionals who work at the center and the 19 people welcomed each year, this center includes:
− Six Salmson PBS pumps in cascade, with variable flow, including 3 PBS 80-170 pumps for chilled water with flow rates of up to 570 m3/h and 3 PBS 65-140 pumps for hot water with maximum flow rates of 285 m3/h.
− Two Salmson CC-HVAC control boxes.
− Three Salmson SIE 208-14/7,5 In-Line pumps.
− Two 980 kW condensing boilers.
− Two 525 kW cold and 673 kW hot heat pumps, allowing heat recovery for periods of simultaneous hot and cold needs.
− Two 719 kW refrigeration units.

PBS Pumps: Standardized horizontal, single-block pumps for circulating hot or chilled water for pressure boosting or climate control applications. These pumps feature IE2 motors, high hydraulic efficiency, a compact footprint, and low operating noise.

CC-HAV control panels: multi-pump control and protection panels that allow pump performance to be adapted to the installation's thermal or cooling requirements to optimize energy consumption. Numerous regulation and control modes are available on the CC-HVAC, which is also compatible with CANopen, Ethernet, Lonworks, Profibus, and Modbus RTU communication protocols.

EISs are in-line pumps designed for heating and air conditioning networks. They adapt to the actual needs of buildings thanks to electronic speed variation. They contribute to optimizing energy performance while meeting comfort requirements.

Focus on cascade pumps
On this site, the option of cascade operation of the PBS pumps was chosen.
Indeed, it allows to minimize the pumping costs which represent approximately 15 to 22% of the total energy consumption in cooling and 2 to 6% of that in heating. The option of cascade pumps also allows to dimension the installation taking into account the expansion of the building (cold). Most of the time, the thermal or cooling needs represent only 50% of the total power (82% in heating and 75% in cooling), which corresponds to a flow rate of 20%. Cascade pumps are particularly adapted to these configurations, they allow a wide regulation range as well as a low minimum flow rate value.
