Artibat Trade Fair: Viega presents Megapress, a new crimping technique for industry and construction

A more reliable and cost-effective crimping system

In most heating, cooling, and industrial systems, steel pipes are still often joined by welding. This technique poses a high fire risk and is time-consuming. With its Megapress solution, Viega allows black steel pipes up to a nominal diameter of 2/3" to 8" to be pressed in just a few seconds. This ingenious system is now available in 2016/XNUMX inch for standard radiator installations in residential buildings. From now on, especially in older buildings, it will be significantly easier to replace valves, radiators, or renovate systems. Viega is presenting its Megapress system for the first time in France at the Artibat XNUMX trade fair.

More reliable and more cost-effective

Megapress offers an alternative to welding, clamping, or screwing. Its cold pressing system is much more economical due to faster and, above all, more reliable processing without an open flame. A special EPDM sealing profile is integrated into each steel connecting element (material 1.0308 / St 37) with a zinc/nickel coating. Combined with a separating ring and a toothed ring, it ensures a durable seal and strong adhesion for rough surfaces of black, galvanized, painted, or epoxy resin-coated steel pipes.

An estimated time saving of 60%

The time savings provided by this new pressing technique are considerable. It is estimated at nearly 60% compared to standard techniques such as welding, clamping, or screwing. Equipped with Viega's SC-Contour system, Megapress fittings reduce the risk of leaks. Connections inadvertently left unpressed during construction are immediately recognizable during final inspections. Once pressing is complete, the pipe connections are permanently watertight.

Effortless crimping

With Viega's pressing machines (Pressgun 5 or Pressgun Picco), the connection is pressed effortlessly. All accessories are delivered in a practical case, containing the pressing jaws (1/2" to 1"), three pressing rings for nominal diameters 1¼" to 2", as well as a hinged jaw. This makes it possible to make pressed connections even in confined spaces.

A wide operational range

The expansion of the range with the 3/8 inch nominal diameter adds new accessories such as elbows, sleeves, tees, threaded fittings and reducers. This evolution allows the system to cover a wider range of standard installations: exchange of valves or radiators, laying of pipes, installation of additional radiators, etc.

Megapress will be presented for the first time in France at the Artibat 2016 trade fair. The crimping system is suitable for all heating and cooling installations, as well as industrial installations up to 16 bar and 110°C.
