Pressing: Viega's Megapress XL joins steel pipes up to four inches in seconds

With its Megapress piping system, Viega makes it possible to press thick-walled pipes from ⅜ to two inches in diameter. Thanks to the new XL fittings, Megapress can now also be used in large installations. Thanks to the Press Booster for Pressgun, it is also possible to press diameters of two and a half, three, and four inches in just a few seconds.

Installations using thick-walled steel pipes (DIN EN 10255, DIN EN 10220/10216-1, and DIN EN 10220/10217-1 standards) often require welding, or even, in some cases, assembly or screwing with fittings. Thanks to Viega, cold crimping technology is now becoming the standard in this area as well. Its Megapress pipe system enables very easy crimping of thick-walled steel pipes with a rough surface. A reliable, leak-proof pipe connection, capable of withstanding maximum loads, is achieved in just seconds immediately after crimping. All this is done without a flame, thus eliminating the risk of fire. With Megapress XL , these advantages now also apply to 2.5, 3, and 4-inch thick-walled steel pipes.

Crimping up to eighty percent faster than soldering

For Megapress XL fittings , crimping is performed using a system-specific Press Booster . It can be powered by all Viega crimping machines from type 2 up to the Pressgun 5. Thanks to this crimping force booster, the new XL fittings can also be crimped in just a few seconds. Depending on the diameter, the time savings can be up to eighty percent compared to welding.

Its light weight, carrying strap, and ergonomic handle make the Press Booster for Pressgun both reliable and easy to use. This significantly simplifies tube installation, even at height or in confined spaces. The system works with diameters up to four inches.

A wide range equipped with the famous SC-Contur

Megapress XL fittings are made of steel with a zinc-nickel coating. The FKM seal is designed for operating temperatures up to 140°C. A complete range of couplings, elbows, transitions, reducers, tees, and flanges offers a suitable solution for virtually any installation. Like all Viega press fittings, the new Megapress XL fittings feature the SC-Contur system . This forced leak system ensures immediate identification of fittings that were inadvertently not crimped during the leak test. After crimping, the fitting is permanently leak-proof.

From its launch, the Megapress XL range has received important approvals: VdS for sprinkler systems, TÜV for compressed air networks and heating systems, DNV/GL, LR and RINA for shipbuilding.
