Swiss Krono invests to reduce its environmental impact

Manufacturer of decorative wooden panels and the only French manufacturer of OSB, Swiss Krono has invested in a new bark stripper at its production site in Sully-sur-Loire (45), which allows it to use local wood species and reduce its carbon footprint.

In June 2017, the company invested €8,5 million in this new debarker combined with a new wood cutting system. Thanks to this equipment dedicated to the production line of OSB panels and slabs for timber construction, Swiss Krono now incorporates 50% hardwood species into its manufacturing process. This is a way to address the regional scarcity of softwood species and to prioritize the local timber industry, which relies primarily on hardwoods. Procurement is carried out in a sustainable manner, in collaboration with the National Forestry Office, private landowners, and Swiss Krono's own logging companies.

This local and responsible sourcing approach allows Swiss Krono to reduce its environmental impact, on the one hand by reducing wood transport distances by around 600 kilometers per year. On the other hand, nearly 000% of the bark from the logs used in OSB manufacturing is reintroduced into the fuel for boilers dedicated to wood heating. By covering 90% of the factory's energy needs, the revaluation of wood waste allows Swiss Krono to limit its use of fossil fuels.
