Paris, April 27, 2011 – The Professional Organization for Prevention in Building and Public Works (OPPBTP), Elengy and GRTgaz have just awarded the 2010 Safety Trophies and celebrated the 10th anniversary of their partnership at the Pavillon de l'Eau.

For 10 years, the awareness-raising and safety prevention training activities carried out within the framework of this partnership with subcontracting companies on gas infrastructure construction sites have been bearing fruit. The frequency rate (FRR) of workplace accidents (number of accidents in service with work stoppage exceeding one day per million hours worked) thus fell from 28,1 to 12,7 between 2000 and 2010 (in 1997 the FRR was 41,3).
In addition, to work on the project management's construction sites, training called "safety passport" is provided by the'OPPBTP so that each subcontractor meets the optimum criteria for health and safety at work: 2847 passports were issued in 2010 alone. A tangible sign of the shared desire of the OPPBTP, GRTgaz and Elengy and the subcontracting companies to continue to progress together in the prevention of risks and accidents.
To further entrench this culture of prevention, the Safety Trophies are awarded annually. They reward subcontracting companies for their actions in favor of prevention on construction sites for the installation of natural gas pipelines or the construction of new industrial facilities and the renovation of industrial sites for the storage, regasification, and transportation of natural gas.
In 2010, the 25 participating companies worked on 18 identified construction sites. The assessment is based on various criteria, including safety organization, the role of local management, and the quality of the specific health and safety plan (PPSPS). The reception of employees on construction sites, contractual monitoring of subcontractors, staff motivation regarding safety, and the quality of implementation are also among the key processes observed.
