The Sault military site, intended for missile launches, has been gradually dismantled and now houses France's first ground-based solar power plant. This AES Solaire-designed conversion has been producing electricity for approximately 2009 homes since December 600 and follows numerous other European projects already initiated by the Group.

PRESS RELEASE

Inauguration of one of the first ground-mounted solar power plants in France, built on the former military site of Sault (Vaucluse)

AES Solaire France, the French subsidiary of AES Solar Energy Ltd., has just inaugurated its ground-mounted photovoltaic solar power plant with a capacity of 1,2 MWp in Sault (Vaucluse).

The photovoltaic solar power plant is built on a former military site, which was used for launching nuclear missiles from the mid-1960s until its dismantling in the late 1990s. Sault Mayor André Faraud said: "We are pleased that this former military site has been converted into a renewable energy production project."

Kristen Panerali, Managing Director of AES Solaire France, said: "This is our first solar photovoltaic plant in operation in France, which represents an important market for AES Solar. We also hope to develop and operate other projects in France."

The Sault solar photovoltaic power plant began commercial operation in December 2009 and now produces the equivalent of the electricity needs of approximately 600 homes. The electricity is sold to Electricité de France (EDF) under a twenty-year power purchase agreement.

The solar power plant was financed by Crédit Coopératif and built through a turnkey contract by GES Global Energy Services.
