The oceans are a unique living space, but billions of pieces of plastic waste harm flora and fauna every day. Through alternative solutions, some businesses can help protect the seas. Warema, the European leader in technical sun protection products, now offers blinds made from Sea-Tex, a fabric created by recycling plastic items from the ocean.

"With our Sea-Tex blinds, we are achieving our quality and sustainability goals," explains Thomas Knüttel, Head of Interior Sun Protection Products at Warema. "It is important to us to contribute to greater energy efficiency and a healthy indoor climate with our sun protection solutions. We also want to be committed to creating a future that is worth living in. Our Sea-Tex blinds fit perfectly with this approach."

A new life for bottles, bags and other plastic items

The plastic used to make Sea-Tex is collected from beaches and coasts around the world. It is transformed into threads, woven with other fibers to create a particularly robust textile. Sea-Tex, which meets tear-resistance requirements, also has the Öko-Tex certification (or Oeko-Tex in the French market), a label designed to guarantee the absence of toxic products for the body or the environment. Another characteristic is that the fabric is flame-retardant (class B1 fire resistance), antistatic, and suitable for humid environments.

Sustainability at its best

Warema manufactures interior sun protection products made of Sea-Tex that have a pleasing appearance and provide effective glare protection. The manufacturer offers a wide range of roller blinds with and without cassettes in various sizes and designs. The roller blinds for atriums and conservatories are equipped with a 230V electric motor and a counter-traction system. Warema also offers Japanese blinds and vertical blinds made of durable material, which can be used as room dividers or as privacy screens on windows and doors. The color range includes five subtle natural tones, from dark "graphite" to "white," including "sand," "fog," and "pearl."
