A moisture meter to monitor the moisture content of materials

The new Bosch EXPERT EXMM3-17 moisture meter It is aimed at drywall installers, painters, architects, plumbers, carpenters and maintenance teams. It allows for the inspection of surfaces and the assessment of moisture levels in various building materials.

The tool can be used on drywall, concrete, masonry, or wood. It thus contributes to preliminary diagnostics before work begins, particularly during renovations, damage assessments, or substrate inspections prior to implementation.

Three sensors for construction site measurements

The EXPERT EXMM3-17 combines three sensors in a single device: pins, a buffer, and a thermo-hygrometer. It measures the moisture content of 37 wood species and 10 building materials.

The pin sensor performs an invasive measurement. The pad sensor allows for a non-invasive measurement, useful for quickly scanning large areas. The thermo-hygrometer monitors ambient temperature, from -20°C to +70°C, as well as relative humidity.

A quick review of the results on site

The high-contrast color LCD screen makes data easy to read. A variable threshold scale, adjustable with color display, helps interpret the results.

A reference mode allows you to compare several areas with the buffer sensor, using a dry area as a starting point. This function can be useful for locating a moisture anomaly on a wall, floor, or partition.

Before each use, an automatic self-test verifies the calibration of the pin sensor. This step limits measurement errors, but does not replace the expertise of a design office, craftsman, or specialized company in case of a major problem.

A robust tool for construction site conditions

The EXPERT EXMM3-17 features a reinforced rubber housing and an IP65 rating for protection against water and dust. This design meets the demands of construction sites, where measuring tools are exposed to shocks, dirt, and humid environments.

The interface includes a power/back button, a settings button, and a central button to hold the display. An adjustable beep confirms a measurement.

Support for pre-construction diagnostics

In the construction industry, moisture measurement is often carried out before painting, applying coatings, repairing partitions, or working on the building envelope. It helps to verify the condition of the substrate before implementation.

This measure must, however, be interpreted according to the material, the environment, and the context of the construction site. The professional standards and rules applicable to the structures, particularly the DTUs (Unified Technical Documents) related to substrates and coatings, remain crucial in deciding whether to intervene.
